Wendy Johnston Music

Wendy Johnston teaches piano and organ students from her studio in Woodbine, Maryland.  She is Organist and Assistant Director of Music at Catonsville Presbyterian Church, where she provides music for worship services, accompanies the Chancel Choir and directs the Youth/Children Choir. 

Teaching is both a love and a mission in life. Wendy has an active teaching studio of piano and organ students of all levels where she finds great joy in guiding students to attain their potential and to learn to express themselves through music. She has successfully guided hundreds of students over a decades-long career of teaching. Students have been frequent prize winners in local association events but most importantly, they play with joy and expression. 

Wendy Johnston has a Master of Music  from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland and a Bachelor of Music from Shenandoah Conservatory. In addition, Ms. Johnston holds a Bachelor of General Studies from Brigham Young University, where she completed additional work in Piano Performance.  Major teachers include John Walker, Wayne Wold, Dale Krider, Irene Peery-Fox and Brian Ganz. She has been coached by Martin Jean, Nathan Laube and Jean-Baptiste Robin. During a post-graduate trip to Paris, Wendy had additional coaching at the Royal Chapel at Versailles, France with Jean-Baptiste Robin.

 In addition to her private teaching, Wendy teaches and presents at Brigham Young University's Summer Organ Workshops in Provo, Utah, and at BYU Traveling Organ Workshops held throughout the United States. 

As a recitalist, Wendy was recently named as a Guest Recitalist at the Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah where she performs on the historic daily noon recital series held in the Tabernacle and in the Conference Center on Temple Square. She was a featured recitalist at the 2024 Organ Historical Society's Convention in Baltimore. 

An active member of the American Guild of Organists, Ms. Johnston holds the AGO's Associate Certificate and serves in numerous capacities, including as Chair of the National AGO's Committee for Career Development and Support and as Regional Education Coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic Region. At the local level she serves as Sub-Dean of the Baltimore AGO Chapter and has been instrumental in founding and establishing the chapter's Student Scholar Program.  She has been a long-time member of the Maryland State Music Teachers Association, serving on both state and local executive boards.
